How to Get a Recruiter’s Attention — The Right Way

By John Daskas

As an executive recruiter, I receive daily LinkedIn messages from job seekers that often sound the same:
“I’m on the market.”
“I’m actively looking.”
“I was just laid off.”
Unfortunately, statements like these give a recruiter very little to work with. They describe a situation — not a value proposition. Often, they’re also sent without a resume or any clear summary of skills, accomplishments, or professional impact.
If you want to significantly increase your chances of a response, lead with who you are professionally and what you deliver.
For example:

“I’m currently the Operations Manager at XYZ, where I’ve exceeded revenue targets by 40% over the past three quarters. I’d appreciate the opportunity to share my background and discuss how my experience could bring value to your clients.”
